Title : Assessment of agricultural media mix for accessing information by farmers in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria
Abstract:
The study assessed agricultural media mix for accessing information by farmers in Makurdi Local Government of Benue State, Nigeria. Respondents were all farmers in the study area; due to enormity of the population of the farmers 120 respondents was selected using multistage sampling technique. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaire administered through interview. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings reviewed that 60% of the respondents were male age between 20 and 30 years, 40% attended tertiary institutions, 43.3% were farmers, 43.3% had farming experience of 1- 10 years and earned an estimated annual income of NGN 100,000.0 - NGN 500,000.0. About 60% of the respondents used media combination of radio, television, posters and folk media, (x- = 2.07) mostly preferred radio, television, posters and folk media and agricultural shows, tours, meetings and storytelling and 67.5% cost was one of the factors influencing preference for media mix. Media combination like radio, television, posters and folk media should be used for dissemination of agricultural information to farmers. It is recommended that media combination of radio, television, posters and folk media should be use for dissemination of information to farmers, agricultural extension agents should use the right combination of media mix that are simple and cost effective to disseminate information to farmers.
